I reside in Arizona, where it gets really hot due to parts of it being a desert. It has become even hotter now due to climate change, but I digress. You could argue that people like me don't have a “real” relationship with the land because we don't ever leave the house, so how could we have an interactive relationship with it? Well, what is my home made out of? Materials from the land. Where does my food come from? The land. See? It’s the very foundation of mine, my family’s, and neighbors' lifestyles. We need the land to survive, and it provides us with everything, so we should give it that same respect. Not take advantage of it like corporate companies and how today’s society is doing today. The Indigenous people already knew this. They used the land responsibly and treated it respectfully—never wasting materials and restoring what they did use. Our Earth creates and sustains life, we need to come to terms with the problems we are creating for ourselves by abusing it.
