The idea I had for the project was to *hands grabbing the air motion* this idea of "the heart of America/Capitalism." I think I did a good job representing that based on/off of what I learned. My project diorama thing showcases a heart that's been colored with the colors of the American flag, and the box represents a room that has been divided into two. On one side you have wealthy ppl with a bunch of capital lying around, and on the other side are some ppl who don't seem to have a lot of money and have a lot of bills [on the table].
I colored the heart this way because I wanted it to be more, noticeable, for lack of a better word, that it was meant to represent America (the United States). I also thought it would be cool to not just draw the heart but to color it that way too. My original idea was to stick the heart on and then the "arteries" or lines coming from the heart would be the flag colors. It looks good though and I feel like it's easier to make that connection since the heart is [made like] the flag.
Some more information/insight about the details of the project: - I don't know if you noticed but the stick figure guys are different sizes. I did that purposefully to show that the wealthy ppl are eating better or more than the poor, or for better words, working class. - I also wanted to show the difference b/w how the wealthy lived verses the lower classes. The wealthy are partying and having fun--they're content in way, or many. Verses the lower class people, they're stressing about the bills and have little to no money.
The Left Side - You have the little guy sulking in the corner. What do you think he's sad or worrying about? Then you have the guy up against the right wall. He's holding a bill in his hand. You can't tell (I didn't draw faces on them), but he's debating whether he should or can afford to pay that bill or use the money for something else...like food. You can't see from the angle of this image, but the guy on the left wall is holding a bottle of alcohol. Maybe that's the start of an addiction. Why do you think that is considering his circumstances? The point of this side was to reflect the ways this capitalism is affecting them mentally (connection to interview). They seem to be growing up with so little and it's weighing them down mentally. They do not look happy. - I added the bills on the table because of this idea I got from the film Cinderella Man. For some context- a family of 5, mom dad (boxer), and 3 kids, they used to be well off--middle class. And by the start(?) of the Great Depression they had a bunch of bills and papers on collecting dust on their table because they couldn't pay anything off, even though they were middle class. And that made me want to incorporate that somehow into my project. The not being able to pay your bills thing.
The Right Side - One seemingly random detail I added (it was literally last second) was the guy with his arms ripped off. See how all the ppl have ties on that side and he's the only one that doesn't have one? The ppl with ties represent the "Capitalist" and the ones without...are not capitalist. So to conclude/summarize, they ripped his arms off bc he owed them money. See the money in his hands that aren't attached to his body? Yeah they took his arms and whatever money he had and they're partying while he's dying--because his arms have just been ripped off.
